About Credit Footing

Credit Footing is a free matching service for people in the US who want help building credit from zero or rebuilding it after problems. We do not repair credit ourselves, and we do not promise results.

About Credit Footing

What Credit Footing is

Credit Footing helps people understand the US credit system in plain language and, if they want, get matched with a credit-repair company or nonprofit credit-counseling provider. Our service is free for consumers.

We are not a credit-repair company, law firm, lender, or financial advisor. We do not work on your credit file ourselves. We provide general education and a free way to connect with a provider that may be able to help.

Many people who use our site are new to the US, building credit for the first time, or trying to recover after errors, missed payments, debt, or hardship. Our goal is to make the process easier to understand, not to make big promises.

What you can do for free today

You have the right under federal law to get your credit reports for free and dispute errors yourself at no cost. If something on your report is wrong, you do not have to pay anyone to challenge it.

A good first step is to review your reports carefully, look for mistakes, and keep copies of any documents that support your dispute. Accurate negative information usually cannot be removed just because you do not like it, and honest credit improvement usually takes time.

If you want help understanding your options, you can read how it works or choose to get matched with a provider. Matching is optional.

How our free matching works

If you ask to get matched, we collect only basic contact and goal information: first name, phone number, optional email, your goal, ZIP code, and preferred language. We do not ask for Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, full credit reports, income, or date of birth.

If we have a participating provider that may fit your situation, we may connect you with them. That provider can explain its services, timeline, and written contract. You should read that contract carefully before agreeing to anything.

To submit a match request, you must give separate consent to be contacted, including by calls or texts that may use automation. Your consent is not required to use our educational content, and it is not a condition of any purchase.

What honest providers can and cannot say

No honest company can guarantee a specific credit score, promise to remove all negative items, or erase accurate bad credit. Results depend on your own credit history, what information is actually incorrect, and how long rebuilding takes.

If you speak with a credit-repair company, federal law gives you important protections. A credit-repair company cannot charge you before the promised work is done. It also cannot legally promise to remove accurate negative information.

That company must also give you a written contract describing the services, and you have the right to cancel within three business days. More details are in our disclaimer. Rules and timelines can also vary by state.

How to spot scams

Walk away from anyone who says they can erase true negative information, asks for money before doing work, tells you to dispute information that is actually correct, or suggests creating a new credit identity or using a CPN. Those are major warning signs.

Be careful with fast-talk promises like "instant results" or claims that your score will rise by a certain number of points. Honest help is usually slower and more boring: checking reports, disputing real errors, making on-time payments, lowering balances, and following a written plan.

You can do legitimate dispute steps yourself for free. If you want outside help, use caution, ask for everything in writing, and compare the provider's explanation to what you already know about your rights.

Why we built Credit Footing

US credit can feel confusing, especially if you are new to the country or English is not your first language. Many people do not know what is free, what is realistic, or what questions to ask before signing a contract.

Credit Footing was built to give people a calmer starting point. We try to explain the basics clearly, help people avoid scams, and offer a free path to connect with a provider if they want one.

If you want to start, you can get matched or first read more about how it works.

In plain English

Credit Footing is a free way to learn about credit and connect with a provider if you want help, but you can always review your reports and dispute real errors yourself for free.

Common questions

Is Credit Footing a credit-repair company?

No. Credit Footing is a free matching service. We do not repair credit ourselves, and we do not give legal or financial advice.

Does Credit Footing cost me anything?

No. Our matching service is free for consumers. If you choose to work with a provider, that provider will explain any costs in its own written contract.

Can I dispute credit report errors by myself for free?

Yes. You have the right to get your credit reports for free and dispute errors yourself at no cost. You do not have to hire anyone to do that.

Will you ask for my Social Security number?

No. We only collect basic contact and goal information for matching: first name, phone, optional email, goal, ZIP code, and preferred language.

Can you guarantee my score will improve?

No. Nobody can honestly guarantee a certain score or a specific result. Credit outcomes depend on your own file, what information is accurate, and the steps taken over time.

What should I do if a company asks for payment before doing any work?

Be very careful. Under federal law, a credit-repair company cannot charge before the promised work is done. Ask for a written contract, and if the company makes unrealistic promises, walk away.
